I had to reactivate this bitch, cos i miss writing so much. It's been nearly two years since my last confession!
Man, life sure got serious all of a sudden... i'm running my own business, in a two year relationship, twenty-three. Everything's going brialliantly, but there's a little too much routine. I went overseas in the middle of this year, and i'm looking forward to going again. In the meantime, since i sucked at keeping a diary, i'm just gonna take the pleasure of recording my last travels.
Seattle/Olympia
So i flew into Seattle Airport to meet my girlfriend on the tail end of her bands US tour. We'd had six weeks apart, so i was ultra excited to see her, and even more excited when my friend Lissy also showed up at the airport. Though from Melbourne, she was living in Seattle at the time and playing with an awesome band on Kill Rock Stars. We jumped in the tour van straight up and set on the road to Olympia where the band were playing. We passed the Sleater-Kinney sign, and of course the camera fucked up, and i couldn't get a good shot. We arrived in Olympia and met the girls from King Cobra at the Midnight Sun. Had dinner at the burrito joint and then a shower at the hotel i'd booked for long awaited romance with ma lady.
The show went awesomely, however the Midnight Sun was just an arts space, and we had to duck to the Brotherhood Lounge for booze in between sets. King Cobra were great, and Veronica Lipgloss And The Evil Eyes were fucking brilliant! Surfy guitars, raw thumping bass, hot dancers.. Afterwards we bar hopped a little and hung out with some cool local kids including Tobi Vail and this funny guy who plays in her new band Spider & The Webs. The last stop was a gay bar called Jake's and i'd forgotten my passport for ID and had a hard time getting in... was pissed off and thought it was ridiculous til i realised i was actually only one year over their legal drinking age. Silly laws. So the hotel room was nice, and my god... King size beds are so fuckin huge!! Despite bad menstrual luck on the part of my girl, we had a very noice time getting reacquainted.
The next day we drove back to Seattle and hung out at Lissy's house. Went into town and then out to the burbs for their next show. It was a benefit for a local guy who'd been diagnosed with cancer and heaps of people showed up in support. I forget all the bands that played, but it was at a church, so drinking wasn't allowed. The cute young lad from the other band went to the bottle-o and we drank PBR's (the baddest cheapest beer) in the chevy van outside. We stayed at the Ace Hotel that night, which was exactly that, despite the crazy amount of noise from the saturday night streets of downtown Seattle. I went down the road for a hot diggity dog and sat in bed drinking beer and watching telly - total american style!
Sunday we were off to Olympia again, much to our pleasure - god i love that little town! Lissy came down with us again, and i got to meet her boyfriend and bandmate who came along too. My god... he's an absolute dreamboat... the perfect riotboy and a man after my own heart. The show was at Le Voyeur and one that i'd organised last minute with The Golden Boots from Tucson, Arizona. There wasn't much of a crowd, so afterwards everyone decided to have a jam. It was great to see members of various bands playing together. Then it was the ladies turn, so i played bass while my girl played guitar and Lissy hit the drums. Stuck for anything to play, i ended up ripping off one of Lissy's riffs, from a Gene Vincent cover. So, i fulfilled my dream of playing in an all-girl band in Olympia - voila!
We partied late at the nice local boy's house where we crashed. Listened to Elizabeth Cotten and Townes Van Sant and some tapes of his band. Goodbye Olympia, til we meet again...
Righto...
That'll do it for now, cos it's getting long. I'll keep on with documenting soon i hope. Apologies if it's boring, but i gotta get it down. I don't think anyone reads this anymore which is no doubt a good thing.
